"Micro Scopes was made from a 10 second microphone recording of a single electric guitar note I played through a tube guitar amp. It's common knowledge that guitar tones start with a loud twang and then fade out quite fast until the sound dies. The guitar amplifier added some noise, enriched sound and dynamics and also created feedback since it was quite loud.
The concept of that piece “Micro Scopes” was to zoom in on the sound like I was using a microscope. But instead of enlarging it in size, which works only for physical objects under a microscope, I chose the musical option of prolonging the sound in time. What I did to the recording was blow it up to 30 minutes, enhance the details, and ... see what happens.
So, what happened under my sonic microscope? The twang morphed into a sluggish drone. The once defined guitar tone disintegrated to a sonic cluster. Micro melodies, detunings and also some polyrhythms appeared out of nothing. I had to sonically tame them in fact since they were getting too exciting. Hello, micro scopes."
